Ken Cuccinelli on Immigration

Path to citizenship ok as part of compromise

On immigration, McAuliffe said it would be "one of my finest hours" as governor if he could sign a state version of the DREAM Act, which would grant legal status to some immigrants who arrived in the United States illegally as minors.

Cuccinelli said he wanted to see "some sort of compromise reached on immigration" and said a path to citizenship "could be part of the proposal."

Welcome LEGAL immigrants; but no blind eye to lawlessness

The US attorney general and his DOJ sued both Arizona and South Carolina to prevent the states from enforcing federal immigration laws that the federal government refused to enforce itself. In fact, Congress passed immigration laws with the clear intent that states would assist the government with enforcement, but the Obama administration attacked states that were trying to help restore the rule of law in the immigration arena. In its attacks, the federal government tried to publically raise the specter that these new state laws would lead to racial profiling, but DOJ lawyers actually admitted in court that they didn't have any real claim of such profiling. The bottom line is that states welcome LEGAL immigrants, and to not control illegal immigration and turn a blind eye to lawlessness is unfair to those immigrants who come to this country playing by the rules.
