Socialist Party on Homeland Security

Socialist Party Platform

Abolish CIA, NSA, FBI; disband NATO

We call for the abolition of the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency, and all other institutions of covert warfare. We stand for unconditional disarmament by the United States. We call for the disbanding of NATO and all other aggressive military alliances, and the closing of all overseas bases. We call for the abolition of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Close down all foreign military bases

By eliminating for-profit corporations, nationalizing industries, and controlling and regulating the banking and financial areas, we will be able to eliminate most wars, enhance peace through fairer economic policies, and cut our Defense budget in half.

We will also close down all foreign military bases and abolish the CIA and NSA. We stand for unconditional disarmament, outlawing all nuclear power and weapons of mass destruction and end U.S. arms sales.

Close down the DHS and repeal the Patriot Act

We will close down the entire homeland security agency, an $8 billion boondoggle with duplicated bureaucracy & unnecessary layers of intelligence. This should include eliminating its sweeping police powers, & repealing the Patriot Act & Anti-Terrorism Act.

Reduce terrorist threat by ending foreign exploitation

Terrorist threats will cease due to our new foreign policy that stops our exploitation of foreign lands and cultures and thereby removing the motivation of hate so prevalent amongst those countries that have been taken advantage of by our government and American and global corporations.

The Patriot Act is racist profiling

An immediate end to the racist profiling of Arab, Muslim and South Asian communities is necessary. The Patriot Act and related federal & state legislation passed as part of the racist "war on terror" must be overturned immediately. The secret FISA court, which issues hundreds of secret warrants each year to the FBI to conduct domestic spying, must be abolished now. The Guantanamo Bay detention center must be shut down and all those incarcerated must be returned to their families and communities.

Transfer billions from Pentagon budget to jobs

Instead of using our tax dollars to fuel the destructive Pentagon budget of more than a half a trillion dollars per year, the La Riva/Puryear presidential campaign calls for redirecting that money to create millions of union jobs for unemployed and underemployed working-class people.

Cut Pentagon budget by 50%

I urge the Pentagon budget be cut immediately by 50%, with radical further cuts each year. We face no military threat from our immediate neighbors, Mexico and Canada, and are protected by vast oceans from invasion. The American military now extends into every area of our lives, and I pledge to resist the militarization of this nation, this obscene continuation of a Garrison State so sharply denounced by the late President Dwight D. Eisenhower when he left office and warned of the military/industrial complex. Given the ads taken out in the New York Times by concerned business leaders worried over the misuse of our tax funds for unneeded military spending, my position only seems radical because neither major party is prepared to speak to it. I call for the closing of all foreign U.S. bases, including the base in Guantanamo, Cuba. I call for the end of sanctions against Iraq, Cuba and Libya.

End nuclear testing; strive for zero nuclear weapons

Nuclear weapons remain a grave danger and we must strive for an immediate end of all further nuclear testing and take immediate steps to scale down our own arsenals of nuclear weapons even as we engage with other nuclear powers to reduce theirs until we have zero nuclear weapons, and a sense of trust and verification which will give us assurance that no new weapons are tested and the list of nuclear states diminishes to zero rather than expanding to disaster.
