Wall Street criminals must be jailed

The vast wealth of the giant banks and corporations is created by workers labor and the exploitation of the world's diminishing natural resources. The billionaires looted and destroyed the economy. It is time to seize their assets and use those resources in the interests of the vast majority. Power must be taken out of the hands of the super rich, and Wall Street criminals must be jailed. Reregulation of the banking and insurance industries

We call for all financial and insurance institutions to be socially owned and operated by a democratically-controlled national banking authority, which should include credit unions, mutual insurance cooperatives, and cooperative state banks. Breakup large media companies, re-regulate industry

We support the breakup of large media companies so that no one owns more than one newspaper, radio or television station, or television channel. We call for the re-regulation of the communications industry. We call for government ownership of satellite and cable companies.

We support public funding of newspapers and magazines. We oppose all efforts to trim "fair use" rights. We call for the repeal of all existing copyright extension laws.

Revolution to overcome capitalist worker exploitation

We believe that the international organization of labor is the only way of combating the exploitation of workers in a global capitalist economy. Working people have no country, but rather an international bond based on class. Workers throughout the world have far more in common with each other across national boundaries than with their bosses in their own countries. Ultimately a socialist revolution must be an international revolution that cannot survive if confined to individual countries amidst capitalist imperialism.

We call for the repeal of the Hatch Act and the Taft-Hartley Act, and all so-called "right-to-work" laws.
We call for the same benefits for part-time workers as for full-time workers.
We call for a 30 hour work week at no loss of pay, with six weeks annual paid vacation.
We call for unions to stop using union funds for electing candidates from the Democratic and Republican parties.

We believe that capitalism is fundamentally incompatible with democracy and that true democracy can only be achieved with society's transformation to socialism. Eliminate corporate welfare, then eliminate corporations

We call for the elimination of subsidies and tax breaks that benefit corporations and all other forms of corporate welfare. We call for the ultimate transformation of the economy from a for-profit to a non-profit system run by the workers. Workers will buy out the corporations at a fair price and transition to a system where the revenues gained by the corporations deemed suitable for the environment and quality of humankind's lives will be redistributed to the workers. Cap and reduce corporate profits and executive salary

Cap and REDUCE corporate profits and executive salary levels WHILE FOSTERING THE TRANSFER OF CORPORATE PRODUCTION AND SERVICE, AND OWNERSHIP AND CONTROL TO ITS WORKERS.
Stop the gouging and ripoffs of consumers by legislating limits and caps for costs in services and products in the market place.

In 1980s, wealthiest 1% got 2/3 of all wealth increases

When I first ran for Congress, I asked the people of VT to send me to Washington so that I could fight for those people who can't afford to attend $500-a-person fundraisers; and who can't afford to have well-paid lobbyists in Washington protecting their interests. That's the promise that I made, and that's the promise that I've kept.

During the 1980s, the top 1% of wealth holders in this country enjoyed 2/3 of all increases in financial wealth. The bottom 80% ended up with less real financial wealth in 1989 than in 1983--and that trend continues. Today, tragically, the US has the most unfair distribution of wealth and income in the entire industrialized world.

The needs of the rich & large corporations are never ignored

The problem with Washington, and politics in the US, is NOT that ordinary people have too much power and influence. It's not that the needs of the rich and large corporations are ignored. The problem is that groups representing the wealthiest people in this country are able to decisively influence the legislative process so that public policy reflects the interests of the privileged few and not the needs of the general population.
