Arbitration limits trial lawyers and helps consumers

There have been numerous attacks in the courts and in Congress on the Federal Arbitration Act (FAA) and the arbitration process. Critics claim inaccurately that the FAA was meant to apply only to disputes between commercial entities. In truth, arbitration is an efficient and fair alternative to our costly and burdensome litigation system to resolve disputes, particularly between businesses and consumers. The only real alternative [is] expensive and time-consuming litigation that in many cases does more to line trial lawyers' pockets than redress consumers' injuries.

Any study by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau should examine whether a limit on arbitration would:
