Mike Mazzei on Corporations

Insurance companies must fulfill their responsibilities

Q: What's your opinion on the ongoing lawsuits involving our state's largest insurer?

MUNSON: I will work with the Insurance Commissioner to enforce the laws, and no insurance company should increase any rates on Oklahomans unless they give us a clear reason as to why. Home insurance is too high.

MAZZEI: The legislature did pass a new law this recent session on giving more oversight to how premiums are changed in this state. And they, of course, need to fight for insurance purchasers, like all of us, for both cars and houses, to make sure the insurance companies are following through on their responsibilities as to the cost of home and car insurance, I have a plan to replicate the very successful Florida model that has implemented some reforms and saved so much money that insurance costs for home & car insurance have gone down, on average, 14%. The best program we can have to help people afford homes is to create more economic growth and get salaries growing faster than the rate of inflation.
