Rick Bennett on Corporations

Launch a Maine Growth Fund to capitalize business

Q: What specific steps would you take as governor to boost economic growth?

PINGREE: Affordability is holding back our companies. We need to tackle the high cost of housing.

BENNETT: I will launch a "Maine Growth Fund" because we've heard from many Maine businesses. I met with a group of startup leaders at the Rye Institute a few weeks ago. They cannot access capital, particularly at that mezzanine level between being small and being very successful and large. A Maine growth fund can help fill that gap.

CHARLES: I am going to roll back, work with the legislature and do as much as I can through rulemaking, to roll back a combination of the property tax unfunded mandates, the unfunded mandates that drive our property taxes to this very high level that is unsustainable. Highest ever in our history and highest income in the United States. Roll back regulations on businesses. I'm going to cut the income tax methodically over four years.
