Rob Sand on Corporations

We can cap fees utilities are charging their customers

Q: What is something you will do on day one to make Iowa affordable?

Lahn: Just yesterday the president signed an executive order that will reduce diesel price by 57 cents a gallon. We have to make sure we are growing the economy with Iowa's home grown businesses. We should be prioritizing those businesses and not big out of state projects that are not employing people, like data centers.

Sand: I think we can cap the fees that utilities are charging their customers. Everyone in Iowa has the freedom if they need to address their budget to say we're going to turn the lights off a little bit earlier. We're going to use cooler water instead of hot water. But if your utility companies are charging you high fees then you have less freedom to impact your own bills. I think it is important we make sure those fees are capped. We don't want to see people tightening their own belt using less electricity and having the utility companies come out and increase fees instead.
