Take action doing to work of reparations

Q: The new state reparations commission is starting work. What would be on or off the table in terms of compensating families still suffering the effects of slavery and state sanctioned discrimination?

Cox: I don't think that is a way forward for Maryland. Ultimately we need to make sure the people of Maryland are protected and not charged for something they have nothing to do with.

Moore: If you look at the actions that we have taken the fact that during our administration we have now invested over $1.3 billion in our state's HBCUs, the largest investments in our HBCU's in our state's history. We have done procurement reform and now allocated $4.3 billion going to our state's women owned businesses, minority-owned businesses. I signed the largest mass pardon in the history of the United States of America where I pardoned 175,000 misdemeanor cannabis convictions. This is the work of repair that is taking place.

In this country we have a 10 to 1 racial wealth gap

The fact that in this country, we have a 10 to 1 racial wealth gap, we're all very clear that we don't have a 10 to 1 racial wealth gap because one group worked 10 times harder, that there have been policies that have put in place to make that happen. We know that there's a way that you can address policy measures on a broad scale basis, but that will have a distinct impact on groups that historically have been disenfranchised in the past.

Ensure Maryland schools adopt LGBTQ+ affirming policies

Support students who identify as LGBTQ+ by fully implementing the newly passed Inclusive Schools Act, ensuring Maryland schools adopt LGBTQ+ affirming policies, create partnerships with organizations working with LGBTQ+ youth to provide additional resources needed to support our students, and broaden access to trauma-informed mental health care in schools.

Support the passage of the Trans Health Equity Act to ensure transgender Marylanders can receive the gender-affirming health care they need.
