Wes Moore on Principles & Values

Loving your country does not mean lying about its history

And loving your country does not mean lying about its history. Loving your country does not mean diminishing those who have helped to make this country so powerful and make America so unique in world history in the first place. And so we have got to put a core focus not on eliminating nor erasing history, but on lifting it up, on celebrating it, on understanding that the American mosaic is big and it's broad and it's beautiful.

People are exhausted by performative politics

If they are not hearing an alternative, if they're not hearing an alternative plan, if they're not hearing the plan to push back and fight back, if they're not seeing what we are doing in the streets and in the communities and in the neighborhoods to fight for their best interests, I think for the American people they just look at it as theater. And that is the frustrating thing. The performative politics, people are done, and they're exhausted by it. They just want to see results.

ENOUGH Act more than an acronym, it's a governing philosophy

We need to spend smarter across all state programs. Last month, we unveiled landmark legislation guided by that approach. It's called the ENOUGH Act. And it will continue our assault on child poverty. Engaging Neighborhoods, Organizations, Unions, Governments and Households--that's what ENOUGH stands for. But it's more than an acronym. It's a governing philosophy. We believe the people closest to the problems are closest to the solutions. If THEY offer the vision, WE can offer the support.

We all want what's best for the people we represent

What I called for over the last twenty minutes or so weren't Democratic beliefs. They weren't really partisan at all. These were the things we all hope for, for all Marylanders. We are here, serving together, because we believe a career in service is a difference-making profession. We all want what's best for the people we represent. This is the righteous core of politics. This is the essence of why we do the work.

Everyone deserves an equal opportunity to succeed

Wes Moore, a combat veteran, bestselling author, small business owner, Rhodes Scholar and former CEO of one of the nation's largest anti-poverty organizations, has devoted his life's work to a basic principle: no matter your start in life, you deserve an equal opportunity to succeed--a job you can raise a family on, a future you can look forward to.
