Steve Hilton on Technology

We'll see how AI companies act or if we need regulation

Q: Can A.I. companies be trusted to police themselves?

HILTON: The first priority with this industry is to make sure we get all those jobs here in California. The second thing that's very important, let's protect children. I think we can all agree on that. And that's why I've said that we should have an immediate pause on AI in the classroom, because right now, we're seeing real concerns about something called cognitive stunting, where children's ability to learn is being impeded by AI. In terms of the regulations, I want to make sure that the priority for these companies is safety, making their products safer, whether that's done by them or we need regulation. We'll see how quickly they act on the promises they've made.

BECERRA: If you listen closely, you can hear Donald Trump in that response by Steve Hilton. He's not interested in regulating AI. The President got a pinky promise in this forum that he had with AI leaders. No commitment. We need real enforcement.
