Cyndi Munson on Technology

Day One: moratorium on any new data center projects

Q: Should Oklahoma play a role in growing AI via data centers despite environmental concerns?

MAZZEI: America has to win the battle of supremacy for artificial intelligence [but] we need for guardrails for data centers. They shouldn't get any taxpayer funds. They should provide for their own electricity [and restrictions on water].

MUNSON: On day one, I will sign an executive order putting a moratorium on any new data center projects. We need a standardized, uniformed approach on how we deal with big tech. They want to come to Oklahoma because of our land and because of our loose regulations. I will ensure that we don't pay a single dime for any infrastructure or any energy or electricity costs that data centers will place on working families in the legislature. I have already supported legislation requiring data centers to build their own infrastructure, to pay for their own electricity and utilities, and to make sure that they don't use up our natural resources like our water.
