Tina Kotek on Technology

Moratorium on data centers until guidelines established

Both candidates said they agreed that moratoriums on data centers were warranted. Drazan, however, criticized Kotek's administration for an influx in the facilities.

Kotek said a moratorium was needed until the state could establish guidelines to "hold these large, mega corporations from out of state to a higher standard so we can make sure that we are protecting our electricity costs, protecting our goals to produce more renewable energy, making sure our water and air are protected and making sure that these jobs in these communities really benefit the community."

Drazan said, "I am going to put a moratorium on data centers because they are not wanted in communities across our state. If there are communities that want them, we should reset the table so there is the opportunity for that community to have the data center help fund wildfire mitigation or infrastructure or wastewater projects, whatever that community's needs are."
