Steve Hilton on Tax Reform

State taking less means more money in people's pockets

Q: Hilton says he's going to eliminate state taxes on the first $150,000 in income.

BECERRA: If you start cutting taxes--and Hilton's plan actually goes beyond just the $150,000 he claims--he wants to give the richest Californians--millionaires--a 40% tax cut, which means he will take it out of our schools, out of health care, out of housing, and make the conditions even worse.

HILTON: And the simple point is that the quickest way to get more money in people's pockets is for the government to take less out. That's what I'm going to be doing. And it's not coming from the budgets that he describes. You know what it's coming from? Canceling high-speed rail, which he's promised to continue with. So, just to be clear, you want the people working so hard and barely able to survive -- I have been in every one of our 58 counties. The struggle that people face with the highest cost of living in the country and the highest taxes, you want to ask them to continue to pay taxes at the same rate?

No tax under $100K, 7.5% flat tax on earnings over $100k

California has a completely unaffordable cost of living, driven by the highest taxes in America and the highest prices for housing, rent, electricity, and water. As governor my priority will be to help working people by reducing their taxes:
