Hannah Pingree on Corporations

High cost of housing holds back our companies

Q: What specific steps would you take as governor to boost economic growth?

PINGREE: The challenges of our workforce and affordability are the top thing that is holding back our companies and our ability to have more workers and grow our economy, the high cost of housing. Young people who feel like they can't afford to buy a house. Employers not being able to find employees because there's nowhere affordable to rent. We need to tackle the high cost of housing. That's why I've made housing the centerpiece of my campaign. We're not going to have the workforce we need to grow our economy if we don't build more houses to ensure that young people can afford to stay in this state.

BENNETT: I will launch a "Maine Growth Fund" [to] access capital, at that mezzanine level between being small and being very successful and large.

CHARLES: I am going to roll back property tax unfunded mandates. Roll back regulations on businesses. I'm going to cut the income tax methodically over four years.
