Brad Raffensperger on Principles & Values

Refused to change 2020 vote totals when Trump demanded

A phone call on January 2 wrote Raffensperger's name into history. Trump pressured the secretary of state to "find 11,780 votes"--enough to overturn Joe Biden's win in the state, repeatedly citing disproven claims of fraud and raising the prospect of "criminal offense" if officials didn't change the vote count, according to a recording of the conversation. Raffensperger pushed back, noting that lawsuits making those claims had been fruitless.

His "Christian faith guides everything he does"

Raffensperger's announcement video emphasizes that his "Christian faith guides everything he does" and discusses losing his son to addiction. The video highlights some culture war issues embraced by Republicans, including Raffensperger's vow to "ban biological men in women's sports," referring to the debate over transgender women participating in women's athletics, and to ban "transgender surgeries for minors."
