Aaron Guckian on Principles & Values

We have every reason to be proud of our state

At his campaign kickoff event at the Brewed Awakenings coffee shop, Guckian underlined his Rhode Island roots in a speech brimming with Ocean State nostalgia. "Right here in Rhode Island, we have every reason to be proud because our state was the first to declare independence from Britain and the last one to ratify the constitution insisting that freedom of conscience and local control be protected for everyone," he said.

Had a drinking problem; got help to get sober

Family and friends sat him down to talk to him about his alcohol use, Guckian said. "One of my best friends said 'You are the glue for everybody,'" he said. "I was looking at my father and seeing defeat in his eyes and him saying, 'I don't know what do to do anymore.'" Guckian agreed to get help. And, he said, "I have not had a drink in 10 years in April, God willing."
