Criminal justice system permeated with race & class bias

We stand for and an overhaul of our so-called "criminal justice system" which is permeated with racism and class bias. We support the development of a humane criminal sanction system that is genuinely about the rehabilitation of those who have engaged in anti-social activity, that punishes based on behavior, not race, gender, gender identity or class, and which is based upon alternatives to incarceration except for those who pose a clear danger to society unless incarcerated. No private, for-profit prisons

More community policing; more inmate job training

Support programs to provide prison inmates with drug and alcohol addiction treatment.
Increase funding for community policing programs.
Reduce prison sentences for those who commit non-violent crimes.
Support programs that provide job training and placement services for at-risk youth.

Eliminate the death penalty

Eliminate the use of the death penalty for federal crimes.
Support programs to provide prison inmates with vocational and job-related skills and job-placement assistance when released.
Require that crimes based on gender, sexual orientation, and disability be prosecuted as federal hate crimes.
Impose stricter penalties for those convicted of white-collar crimes.
