Gary Cordery on Tax Reform

Remove general excise tax on food and medicine

Eliminate GET on Food & Medicine: The General Excise Tax (GET)--currently 4% statewide and up to 4.5% in Honolulu--applies to nearly all goods and services, including essentials like food and medicine. Removing this tax on basics would immediately reduce the cost burden on working families and kupuna.

I believe our tax burden is out of control

We will provide stewardship and audits ensuring the people resources (taxes) and provide services without associated waste. Hawai'i's 20.5 billion dollar budget for 1.4 mil people is a staggering number. New Hampshire has 1.4 million people but a $7.75 billion dollar budget. I believe our tax burden is out of control. The answer is management.
