Healthcare.gov problems caused loss of confidence in Feds
The diversion over the troubled healthcare law has enabled House Republicans to avoid divisive debate on the bipartisan immigration bill passed by the Senate in the summer.
Doubts, meanwhile, are mounting about the administration's competence to manage the complexity of a reformed immigration system, given the problems with the healthcare law. "There's a loss of confidence in the government's ability," former
Los Angeles Major Antonio Villaraigosa, a Democrat and proponent of the immigration reform bill, said at an event this month.
"Clearly, the last few months, our experience with [the] Affordable Care Act does not help when you look at other big things like immigration reform."

L.A. should reduce payments to retirees' Health Care plans
In five years, the City's mandatory contribution to sworn retiree health benefits has nearly quadrupled, from $31.4 million in 2005-06 to $113.8 million in 2010-11.
Villaraigosa urged the LAFPP to reject this increase, freezing the retiree health subsidy at its current level. Increases like the one the pension board is considering are steps in the wrong direction. We need to reduce costs, not increase them.
The proposal before the pension board will only drive us deeper into a financial hole. The board should do the right thing and reject it.
Villaraigosa pledged to work with the City Council to freeze the retiree health subsidy for all employees starting on July 1, 2011.
