Mary Peltola on Health Care

My immediate priority is reversing the damage to Medicaid

Q: Many Americans lost health care coverage after the Affordable Care Act enhanced subsidies ended, leaving thousands without health insurance in Alaska.

Peltola: every Alaskan deserves access to high quality, affordable health care. but reckless cuts from Washington, D.C. have threatened health care for tens of thousands of Alaskans. My immediate priority is reversing the damage to Medicaid and restoring health care tax credits that Dan Sullivan voted against seven times. He voted for The Big, Beautiful Bill. This has been the opportunity for a third of Alaskans to have their Medicaid benefits reduced.

Sullivan: The bill she's talking about did not cut Medicaid for Alaskans. Funding for Alaskans at all. What is destroyed? Alaska's health care is Obamacare. Obamacare destroyed the health care system here. It cranked up insurance premiums by almost 1,000%. We lost almost every insurer. I actually bucked my party and voted to extend the premium tax credits on Obamacare twice.

Protect Medicaid expansion, support a public option

Everyone deserves quality healthcare. I will protect Medicaid expansion and work to strengthen the Affordable Care Act for middle-class families. I support a public option and increased flexibility of federal dollars to empower state, local, and Tribal governments with innovative healthcare solutions.
