Roy Cooper on Health Care

When we get Medicaid expansion done it will save lives

I'm grateful for our unified Democratic legislators and some Republicans who have been relentless for years in this effort to expand Medicaid. I commend the Republican leadership of this legislature for now embracing this and coming together in agreement. I also deeply appreciate the many health care professionals and advocates from all walks of life who have worked tirelessly to get this done. When we get Medicaid expansion across the finish line, it will save lives.

Accept Federal dollars to expand Medicaid

We know too many North Carolinians don't have health insurance. Many North Carolinians are tired of their tax dollars going to Washington to cover people in other states, but not our state. It makes no sense to say no to something our Federal tax dollars already pay for in other states. As soon as we can, right now, we should expand Medicaid.

Take federal funds to expand Medicaid

Cooper expressed frustration over the state not expanding Medicaid. "I talk to a lot of rural economic developers, hospital administrators, health care providers, working people--they and I are frustrated that this governor and this Legislature refuse billions of our tax money that we have already paid to Washington that would come back here to hundreds of thousands of working North Carolinians," Cooper asserted. "But they have said no, even though the federal government is going to pay 100% of it."
