Misam Abidi on Civil Rights

Oppose quotas; strongly support equal opportunity

Q: Your opinion on "Legally require hiring women & minorities"?

A: Oppose quotas; strongly support equal opportunity. Government must aggressively enforce laws against discrimination, but equality should not mean assigning people positions according to race or gender. A person should neither be excluded nor selected simply because of the group into which they were born. Our deeper responsibility is to remove the barriers that prevent people from competing fairly: unequal schools, inaccessible training, lack of capital, discriminatory practices, and closed professional networks. Government should build ladders of opportunity rather than preassign seats at the top. The goal is not artificially equal outcomes; it is ensuring that talent has a genuine chance to rise wherever it exists.
