David Crowley on Civil Rights

Equity-based efforts an important part of the county's work

Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley said "equity-based efforts" are an important part of the county's work. "It's how we utilize the data to target resources, to target programs and investments most effectively, to provide the support where it's most needed," Crowley said.

Crowley said the county has a goal of helping older adults, veterans, people with disabilities and "individuals of all races, genders and religions." He said the proposed amendment "threatens" those efforts.

Repeal gay marriage ban in Wisconsin constitution

Crowley called for the repeal of Wisconsin's 2006 constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, pledging to lead the fight as governor to ensure marriage equality remains protected in Wisconsin. "In 2006, Wisconsin wrote discrimination into our constitution," Crowley said. "That amendment has been unenforceable for nearly a decade, but if the Supreme Court overturns Obergefell, it would come roaring back overnight."
