Raise minimum wage to $20/hr. for fast food workers

AB1228: This bill would establish the Fast Food Council and prescribe the council's purposes, duties, and limitations and establish an hourly minimum wage for fast food restaurant employees.

Nation's Restaurant News summary Mar 28, 2024: California's controversial $20 minimum wage for quick-service restaurant workers employed by companies with 60 or more locations is set to go into effect after undergoing multiple revisions and pushback from the restaurant industry. Gavin Newsom introduced and passed AB 1228 which increases the minimum wage for fast-food workers from $16 to $20, instead of the originally proposed $22 an hour.

Legislative Outcome: Passed Assembly 53-17-10 on Sep/14/23; passed Senate 32-8-0 on Sep/14/23; Signed by Governor Gavin Newsom on Sep/28/23.
