Sharon Hansen on Tax Reform

We are paying way too much in taxes

I have gone from dirt poor as a child to a comfortable living because I did the best I could in school and worked hard. We are not wealthy by any means but we, at least presently, are comfortable. We have everything we need. We rarely take a vacation and if we do, it's very short, and we spend as little money as possible. We don't have things in our home that pretty much every other home in America has. But, we have what we need. Our taxes have risen continuously. We are paying way too much in taxes.

Our tax percentage only climbs; it never goes in reverse

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Higher taxes on the wealthy"?

A: I have a disabled sister. She is not on disability. She gets food stamps and health care. She has been turned down for disability repeatedly because she is overweight according to the disability judge. Our taxes are so high that if we didn't have to pay taxes, we could easily support her comfortably. Unless the very wealthy are getting by with paying a lower percentage than we are, they are playing plenty already. For that reason, I believe the wealthy are paying enough but since we are not wealthy, I can't say that for sure. I am not a tax specialist. Many claim that the wealthy pay lower tax rates than we do. I would like to know how they do that. Our tax percentage only climbs. It never goes in reverse.
