Rand Knight on Government Reform

Democrat Challenger

Establish an Independent Ethics Commission for politicians

Corruption is a problem that has plagued both political parties. The United States needs an Independent Ethics Commission. This commission would do three things:
  1. practice independent enforcement;
  2. allow anyone who might know something about violations by lobbyists or any member of Congress or the Administration to quickly and honestly report and document those violations; and
  3. would be empowered to investigate complaints and publicly present facts about possible violations.

    Re-adhere to the Geneva Convention

    The US must re-adhere to the Geneva Convention by stopping our acts of torture; additionally we need to empower the UN to act on Countries which are abusing Human Rights. The rhetoric used by the Republican Party to justify acts of torture not only advocates the US breaking International Law, but has been disproven time and again and sets a dangerous precedent. In reality, most of the "confessions" that have been prompted from situations of duress have not provided any actionable intelligence.
