Dan Quayle on Abortion

Vice President of the U.S., 1989-1993; Former Republican Senator (IN)

Overturn Roe v. Wade; litmus test for appointments

I continue to support an amendment to overturn Roe vs. Wade today. Those I select for the most critical positions in government, including my running mate or nominees to the Supreme Court, will share it.

Keep courts out of state bans on partial-birth abortions

[A US District Court decision today] is an important victory for the cause of defending innocent human life. The American people have every right to ban the horrible procedure of partial-birth abortion, and no state or federal court should interfere with that right. The decision reflects a proper understanding of the legitimate role of the judiciary. [We] must never appoint judges who place their own political objectives ahead of the authority of state legislatures and the will of the people.
