Republican Party on Abortion

Defund Planned Parenthood

PLANNED PARENTHOOD:

Republicans: Defund Planned Parenthood. Let states withhold federal family planning funds from organizations that perform abortions, overturning Obama-era rule and defunding Planned Parenthood.

Democrats: Oppose defunding of Planned Parenthood. Only two Democrats supported bill to let states withhold federal funding for non-abortion health services.

OpEd: Democrats now openly support the murder of newborns

Trump accused Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam of "basically" stating that "he would execute a baby after birth." [see separate Fact-Check!]. Video of Democratic VA Del. Kathy Tran answering questions about her legislation went viral after Republicans circulated a clip in which Tran acknowledged that her bill would allow abortions up until moments before birth. State law allows abortions up to the point of delivery if the life or health of the woman is at serious risk.

Trump jumped on the issue: "I thought it was terrible," Trump said of Tran's remarks. "Do you remember when I said Hillary Clinton was willing to rip the baby out of the womb? That's what it is. That's what they're doing. It's terrible."

"The Democratic Party has become so extreme they are now openly supporting the murder of newborn babies," Camille Gallo, spokeswoman for the National Republican Congressional Committee said last week after Democrats in Virginia pushed to loosen restrictions on abortions later in pregnancy.

Support human life amendment; oppose abortion funding

Faithful to the "self-evident" truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment's protections apply to unborn children. We oppose using public revenues to promote or perform abortion or fund organizations which perform or advocate it and will not fund or subsidize health care which includes abortion coverage. We support the appointment of judges who respect traditional family values and the sanctity of innocent human life. We oppose the non-consensual withholding or withdrawal of care or treatment, including food and water, from people with disabilities, including newborns, as well as the elderly and infirm, just as we oppose active and passive euthanasia and assisted suicide.

No middle ground when it comes to killing the unborn

This is a war: This war is being fought in the courts, in the media, in the classrooms, in the legislative chambers, on the streets and in our homes. It is about the brainwashing of our children, the causing more dependency on the government, and the deterioration of our constitution. To win this war, conservatives need to stop the seizure of power from "we the people" by the liberal cartel, by the government, by The New World Order, and by evil people.

The next thing that conservatives need to accept is there is no middle ground. What is the middle ground between those who think that it is a mother's right to choose whether to keep or kill an unborn child, and those who think the unborn child was created by God at conception ( as stated by the Founding Fathers) with the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as protected by the constitution?

Promote adoption & abstinence, not abortion clinic referrals

We support the President’s strong efforts to promote adoption through increased tax incentives and bonuses to states that place older children in permanent family homes, as well as his efforts to promote foster care by increasing the allocation of funds for preventive and family services.

Each year more than three million American teenagers contract sexually transmitted diseases, causing emotional harm and serious health consequences, even death. We support efforts to educate teens and parents about the health risks associated with early sexual activity and provide the tools needed to help teens make healthy choices. Abstinence from sexual activity is the only protection that is 100 percent effective against out-of-wedlock pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases, including sexually transmitted HIV/AIDS. Therefore, we support doubling abstinence education funding. We oppose school-based clinics that provide referrals, counseling, and related services for contraception and abortion.

Human Life Amendment to the Constitution

We must keep our pledge to the first guarantee of the Declaration of Independence. That is why we say the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and we endorse legislation to make it clear that the 14th Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children. Our purpose is to have legislative and judicial protection of that right against those who perform abortions. We oppose using public revenues for abortion and will not fund organizations which advocate it. We support the appointment of judges who respect traditional family values and the sanctity of innocent human life.

We oppose abortion, but our pro-life agenda does not include punitive action against women who have an abortion. We salute those who provide alternatives to abortion and offer adoption services, and we commend Congressional Republicans for expanding assistance to adopting families and for removing racial barriers to adoption.

Ban abortion with Constitutional amendment

We say the unborn child has a fundamental right to life. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and we endorse legislation that the 14th Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children. Our purpose is to have legislative and judicial protection of that right against those who perform abortions. We oppose using public revenues for abortion and will not fund organizations which advocate it. We support the appointment of judges who respect the sanctity of innocent human life.

Alternatives like adoption, instead of punitive action

Our goal is to ensure that women with problem pregnancies have the kind of support, material and otherwise, they need for themselves and for their babies, not to be punitive towards those for whose difficult situation we have only compassion. We oppose abortion, but our pro-life agenda does not include punitive action against women who have an abortion. We salute those who provide alternatives to abortion and offer adoption services.

Permanently protect life and conscience.

Party signed permanently protecting life and conscience

OnTheIssues explanation of Hyde Amendment and Weldon Amendment In passing the Consolidated Appropriations Act on Dec. 23, 2011, the Weldon Amendment established the right to refuse abortion services (including counseling or referrals) if against the conscience of the healthcare provider, applying to "a physician or other health care professional, a hospital, a provider-sponsored organization, a health maintenance organization, a health insurance plan, or any other kind of health care facility," even in cases of rape, incest, or medical emergency.

The Hyde Amendment, passed on Sept. 30, 1976, bars the use of federal funds to pay for abortion except in cases of rape or incest, or to save the life of the mother. Because restrictions include funds allocated by the Department of Health and Human Services, that can include Medicaid recipients.
