Peter Ricketts on Immigration

Republican Senate Challenger

Secure America's borders, without amnesty

We need an immigration policy that secures our borders and helps protect our nation from the threat of terrorism. Securing America's borders and enforcing immigration laws are two of the most basic obligations of the federal government. Over ten million illegal immigrants in the US should be a concern to all of us. I do not support amnesty for illegal immigrants.

No state services for illegal immigrants

Pete opposes utilizing Nebraska taxpayer money to support state-run programs for illegal immigrants. My immigration principles include:
  • Opposing amnesty in any form for those here illegally
  • Opposing taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal immigrants
  • Supporting mandatory use of E-verify, a legal employment verification system, for all employers
  • Opposing in-state tuition benefits for illegal immigrants
  • Opposing the issuance of drivers' licenses to illegal immigrants
  • Supporting long-term investments to fully secure the border
  • Supporting a crackdown on employers who willfully hire illegal labor
  • Supporting interior enforcement programs such as 287(g), which authorizes and empowers local law enforcement participation in immigration enforcement within their jurisdictions

No Syrian refugee resettlement until full federal review

Gov. Pete Ricketts says he does not want Syrian refugees resettling in Nebraska until the federal government conducts a full review of its screening procedures to ensure public safety. The Republican sent a letter to refugee resettlement agencies in the state, urging them not to pursue resettlement of the refugees in light of the attacks in Paris.
