Kristi Noem on Gun Control

Republican Governor (S.D.)

Defended our Second Amendment more than any other state

We've defended our Second Amendment more than any other state. The first bill that I signed as governor was Constitutional Carry. We blocked local governments from using emergencies to seize people's firearms. We strengthened Stand Your Ground laws. I signed an Executive Order to protect our God-given right to keep and bear arms from being infringed upon by financial institutions.

We're able to market our state as a 2nd Amendment haven

We protect our Second Amendment rights. Constitutional Carry was the very first bill that I signed into law. Two years ago, you all worked with me to make our state the first in the nation to waive all fees for concealed carry permits. We even pay for people's federal background checks. It doesn't cost South Dakotans a penny to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights. We have been able to market our state as a 2nd Amendment haven.

Won't cost you a penny to exercise 2d amendment rights

Let's also eliminate all fees for concealed carry permits in the state. We will pay the costs for federal background checks, as well. It will not cost you a penny to exercise your Second Amendment rights in South Dakota. Three years ago, Constitutional Carry was the very first bill that I signed as Governor. We guaranteed the right of our people to keep and bear arms. Together, we will continue to defend this key constitutional liberty.

Individual right to keep and bear arms

The Constitution guarantees the individual's right to keep and bear arms. I am strong supporter of the Second Amendment. Hunting is a large part of our family heritage and I enjoy hunting with friends and family. My family also runs a hunting operation, so I know firsthand the economic importance hunting has in our state.

National cross-state standard for concealed carry.

Noem co-sponsored H.R.197&S.845

Establishes a national standard for the carrying of concealed firearms (other than a machinegun or destructive device) by non-residents. Authorizes a person who has a valid permit to carry a concealed firearm in one state and who is not prohibited from carrying a firearm under federal law to carry a concealed firearm in another state:

Opposes restrictions on the right to bear arms.

Noem opposes the CC survey question on right to bear arms

The Christian Coalition voter guide [is] one of the most powerful tools Christians have ever had to impact our society during elections. This simple tool has helped educate tens of millions of citizens across this nation as to where candidates for public office stand on key faith and family issues.

The CC survey summarizes candidate stances on the following topic: "Further restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms"
