Signed prohibition of gender-affirming care for minors

In May 2024, South Carolina lawmakers enacted House Bill 4624, which prohibits doctors from providing gender-affirming healthcare to transgender youth as well as many transgender adults. They passed the bill despite vocal opposition from leading medical organizations, pediatricians, LGBTQ+ South Carolinians, and parents of trans youth who warned the state that the law was discriminatory, harmful, and unneeded.

Increase mental and behavioral health services

Review State's behavioral health funding and delivery system

Because 60% of South Carolina children are served by Medicaid, I have directed Health and Human Services Director Robbie Kerr to initiate an immediate review of our State's behavioral health funding and delivery system. Time is of the essence. We must do better.

Challenge constitutionality of ObamaCare

• 2010: Led the federal ObamaCare lawsuit Led eighteen other states to challenge the unconstitutional "individual mandate" in the national health care law, an historic challenge that ended up allowing states the option to turn down the expansion of an already broken Medicaid system.
• 2009: Exposed ObamaCare's "Cornhusker Kickback" Led the successful challenge to the infamous "Cornhusker Kickback," rallying sixteen other states to join the fight.
