Stricter civil penalties for money laundering

Roemer co-sponsored H.R.5176, the Comprehensive Money Laundering Prevention Act, which authorizes the forfeiture of:
  1. any transported monetary instrument when a required report has not been filed or contains misstatements; and
  2. any currency or any interest in other property traceable to such currency involved in a transaction.
Authorizes the Secretary to impose a civil penalty on a person who knowingly or recklessly violates currency transaction reporting requirement.
