50 years since serious national commitment infrastructure

Throughout our nation's history the federal government has helped finance the railroads, bankrolled highways and bridges, facilitated breakthroughs in aviation, and paved the way for Google and Microsoft by R&D investments in computing. A forward-looking government has a role to play. While countries in Asia have embarked on ambitious public works projects, it has been over 50 years since we have made a serious national commitment to infrastructure development. We need to invest in our nation's infrastructure if we want to remain the world's leading economic power. That means bringing broadband to rural areas, which facilitates business development in western Massachusetts. By investing in high-speed rail and our public transportation system, we can reduce traffic congestion, cut pollution, lower the cost of living, and make Massachusetts a more accessible place to work, live, and do business. We also need the federal government to partner with the state and modernize the MBTA.
