Jim Holt on Gun Control

End the Assault Weapons Ban

The so-called "Assault Weapons Ban" should be ended. I don't think it has made any Americans safer, but it has made us less free. We don't punish someone necessarily for what they have, but for what they do. That is the great thing about responsible people being allowed to have substantial means to protect themselves and their property. The more means they have, the less likely it is that those means will have to be used. The Second Amendment is all the gun law this country needs.

Limit lawsuits on firearm manufacturers

Lawsuits on firearm manufacturers should be limited to defects in their products. Suing a gun maker because someone else misused their product is a miscarriage of justice. What is next, suing Burger King because their french-fries made me gain weight? Every lawsuit drives up the cost of doing business, which makes everything more expensive. Limiting lawsuits to those who are actually responsible for the harm done with a product will help protect our pocket books from constantly rising prices.
