Insurance reward for avoiding tobacco, alcohol, obesity
Q: Healthcare consumes up to 17% of our GNP. It appears that lifestyles that are based in moral principles would reduce healthcare expenditures. Would you support a private healthcare approach that rewards behavior that promotes moral lifestyles--
that is, avoiding alcohol and tobacco consumption, as well as obesity reduction, exercise and nutrition that promotes health?
Competition brings down costs and improves efficiency
Competition in health care will bring down costs and improve efficiency. We should inject patient and doctor choice into the system to create more accountability and cost control. As president,
I will use America’s influence to force an end to foreign governments’ subsidizing drug costs at Americans’ expense. Ending the tax deduction for employee health insurance would provide more opportunity for patient choice and consumer power.
Supply-and-demand will improve the health care crisis
Cox supports private investment accounts instead of the current Social Security system and as president would try to bring down the national deficit by reducing bureaucracy, including axing several federal departments, and “entitlement spending.”
He thinks supply-and-demand will improve the health care crisis in America but at the same time, feels some recent corporate mergers have harmed competition in other areas of the economy.
