Dan Cox on Budget & Economy

I will cut taxes and fees, & cut questionable spending

Q: The state budget deficit is forecast to include a $3 billion shortfall next year. Are we likely to see significant cuts or tax increases?

Moore: We inherited a budget deficit. You need to control your spending and you need more private investment and that is what we've done. Where we've now cut the size of the general fund, controlled spending for four years in a row, we have now invited over $17 billion of private investment in the state of Maryland.

Cox: I will cut taxes and fees. To blame the federal economy, yes there's issues there, but we are the second worst economy in the nation. You have to work to do that with a wealthy state that we have. The question is how are we going to save money in the budget. Our audits demonstrated $6.18 billion questionable spending. That is where we come up with the 3 billion. We don't need to raise taxes to do that.
