David Redick on Civil Rights

Republican Senate Challenger

Social engineering for minority hiring doesn't work

Q: Should the government require companies to hire more women & minorities?

A: No. Social engineering by force doesn't work. Further, such laws would intervene in a private contract (hiring) and violate the employer's property rights. The best way for minorities to get better (or any) job is to work and study/train hard to make themselves valuable to employers.

No laws about sexual orientation--they interfere with rights

Q: Should sexual orientation be protected by civil rights laws?

A: No. All citizens have the same rights. Such laws would intervene in a private contract (hiring) and violate the employer's property rights

Patriot Act gives excess authority which is easily abused

The `USA Patriot Act' gives the government excess authority which is easily abused. Under it, even US citizens tend to be viewed by authorities as 'guilty until proven innocent', and are at risk of being secretly spied upon, or arrested, as terror suspects if they criticize government conduct and policies. All these programs continue with no end, or net benefit, in sight.
