J.B. Pritzker on Technology

Video everything, to gather evidence against ICE and CBP

Q: You described ICE shootings in Chicago in 2025 as murder. Has it been investigated?

PRITZKER: Well, we put together an accountability commission exactly to gather all the evidence. But I want you to remember that the federal government claims that they have immunity from these things. And they won't provide any of their own information. We can't gather stuff from them. So that's why I have encouraged the public to have your phones at the ready. Video everything. Bring us your documentation. Make sure that we have witness testimony, so that, when we are able to hold them accountable, we will be able to do it, because we have the evidence. And in the meantime, we're taking them to federal court and making sure that we're taking down as much as possible what ICE and CBP are doing in our cities.

Q: Is it appropriate to call that a murder while there are rising tensions between protesters and ICE agents, if it has not actually been adjudicated?

PRITZKER: OK, let's call it an alleged murder.

Universal broadband access by 2024

Telecommuting, telehealth, remote learning, videoconferencing--this pandemic laid bare the need for reliable broadband across the state. Fortunately, in 2019, working with the General Assembly, I prioritized broadband with the most aggressive vision for high speed internet in the nation. At least $50 million in additional state matching grants will be awarded this year, making substantial progress on our goal of universal access in 2024.

Net neutrality is vital to free expression

Net Neutrality: Support requiring internet providers to provide equal access to all users?

Pritzker: Yes. Net neutrality is "vital to free expression, online innovation, and public safety."

Rauner: Unknown.
