James Carville on Health Care

Universal healthcare would remove millions from welfare

We [should] end the absurd system of giving health insurance to people on welfare and not making it widely available to the working poor. If you asked some welfare experts what would be the single best way of helping people off the welfare rolls, the answer would come back real fast: universal health care. Some would go so far as to say that a quarter of the 5 million families on welfare would drop off the rolls tomorrow if we came up with some way of including everyone in the health-care system.
