Fight the scourge of illegal narcotics with a vengeance

In law enforcement, we have fought the scourge of illegal narcotics with a vengeance. In 2005 you passed laws to reduce the production and use of crystal methamphetamine. When the criminals learned how to get around those laws, you made the necessary changes, and they are working. In the first six months of this fiscal year--July 1 to December 31, 2010--68 percent fewer meth labs have been reported; meth arrests are down 62 percent; the number of drug-endangered children has fallen 76 percent.

Reduced number of crystal methamphetamine labs

The Bureau of Narcotics continues to excel, and legislation passed two years ago has greatly reduced the number of crystal methamphetamine labs in the state. Drugs continue to be a major problem, and most crime is drug-related, but you are doing things t combat it. I ask you to increase the number of narcotics agents by 50, or nearly half. While most policing is done at the local level by police & sheriffs’ departments, we need to give them all the support we can to protect our citizens & families.

Wrong time to cut drug enforcement spending

Over the last three years state drug enforcement spending has been cut 36% at a time when an epidemic of crystal meth crime has broken out around the state.
