Ted Kulongoski on Government Reform

Democratic OR Governor

Reduce deficit with three-year surcharge

I support the three-year surcharge because the other two choices - massive cuts in basic services or massive borrowing - are far worse. Doing nothing will lead to truly devastating cuts in education, health care, corrections and services for children and the poor. It goes against everything we stand for as Oregonians to balance the budget on the backs of children in Bend. I want Oregon to be known for the Cascade Mountains - not a mountain of debt. That’s why I believe in pay-as-you-go.
