Legalize marijuana and abolish the DEA

There has been a lot of political activity recently relating to "legalization" or "decriminalization" of marijuana. But there are three big problems with this:

the "war" against many other drugs is still going full steam
these changes haven't led to a free market, even for marijuana, and
the federal government continues to interfere with marijuana, against the explicit wishes of voters in the various states.

What we should be demanding from Congress is an end to this counter-productive and expensive "war".

End the classification of marijuana and other drugs that makes them subject to federal regulation.
Abolish the Drug Enforcement Agency and the components of all other agencies that have as their primary function the hunting down of drug users, sellers, and producers.
Free from federal prisons anyone convicted of non-violent drug-related "crimes".

The war on drugs is a war on people

Q: Do you support or oppose enforcing laws against drug use as immoral?

A: NO. The government is not our nanny or our daddy. What you eat or drink or smoke is your decision, not the government's. Placing the responsibility for drug use squarely on the individual will lead to more careful use of substances. We must not excuse bad behavior or injuries to others. When we hold individuals responsible for their actions, they are less likely to cloud their judgment with substances.

Oppose current war on drugs as a war on people. Decriminalize all drugs, deal with the side effects of crime as crimes not by arresting drug users.

Opposes "Drug use is immoral"

Substance use is a personal medical and/or moral decision. We must end this war on people who choose to use something you or I see as dangerous. Only the poor minorities end up in prison for drug use. You do not see the rich and famous going to prison. They get to go to a high class rehab center. This is what is immoral.
