Advocate for local control of schools

Scott understands the importance of a quality education. He believes local school boards, administrators, teachers, and parents can make better decisions than Washington bureaucrats. In Congress, he will advocate for local control of schools, federal funding reform, and more affordable higher education. With a quality education, all children, no matter how much money their parents make, will have the skills they need to turn their dreams into reality.

Federal government should take a small role in education

There is no greater task before us than educating our children. A good education ensures our children will succeed in the future and will help keep America strong. While the federal government should retain a small role helping promote education, the lion's share of the decisions effecting our children's education should be made at the state and local level. Dr. Scott will support any reasonable legislation that allows local school districts freedom to improve education quality.

Students in failing schools can transfer to charters

Scott will work for these reforms: students in failing schools may transfer to a better-performing public or charter school; allow parents to use federal funds for tutoring, after school services, and summer school programs; require states to set high standards of achievement and create a system of accountability.
