Rick Ziser on Immigration

Tighter control for the borders

The effort to control illegal border crossings since the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act has failed. The reason is a lack of enforcement and easy access to taxpayer funded benefits. America must control its borders. Following the attacks of 9/11, this duty of the federal government has become even more urgent. The federal government should work with and pay for the local and state enforcement of our immigration laws. Enforcement against companies that hire illegal workers must increase.

Immigration reform must serve the economy and workforce

America must stop extending benefits to those who are illegally in this country. Emergency services should be provided when needed, but once illegal status has been determined they must be treated and then deported. The granting of citizenship to children born of parents illegally in this country should be discontinued. Immigration reform must serve America's economy and workforce. Any temporary worker program must put American citizens first.
