Dan Mongiardo on Homeland Security

2004 former Democratic challenger for Senate (KY)

More funding for veterans and first responders

There is no more noble duty than serving one’s country in the armed services. As such, it is our country’s responsibility to make sure that we provide for those men & women who have served to protect our freedoms. Sadly, our current leaders have shortchanged veterans by reducing their healthcare & retirement benefits. I believe we have a solemn commitment to those who have so bravely committed themselves to our nation. Veteran’s healthcare in Kentucky is facing a $46.2 million dollar shortfall in 2005 alone. I will fight for full funding of veterans healthcare. In addition, I support allowing veterans to fill all of their prescriptions at VA pharmacies, regardless of who prescribed them. Our veterans deserve better.

There is no higher priority than protecting one’s family. Our country’s first line of defense are the men & women who serve as our first responders. Unfortunately, my opponent has repeatedly voted against the men & women who risk their lives to protect our families.

Saddam is not my good friend

BUNNING: We have combined 22 different agencies of the federal government to make us more secure. Mongiardo doesn’t understand that there has not been an attack over the last three years in the US. Do you think that’s by accident or do you think it’s by design? We have worked very, very hard. By combining intelligence, by confronting our good friend Saddam, the ugliest dictator in history, on their turf rather than on our turf, we have prevented attacks.

MONGIARDO: I’m concerned we are going to see another attack. Bunning’s priorities are not to take care of the working class families of this state. Even though you think that I look like Saddam’s sons, he is not my good friend.
