Tulsi Gabbard on Principles & Values

Democratic Presidential Challenger; HI Rep.

Endorses Donald Trump, after quitting Democratic Party

Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman, has endorsed the Republican nominee, Donald Trump.

Gabbard, who served in the military in Iraq, ran for president in the Democratic primary in 2020. She quit the party two years later and has become a fixture at conservative conferences and in rightwing media.

Addressing a National Guard Association conference in Detroit, Michigan, where Trump was speaking, Gabbard said: "This administration has us facing multiple wars on multiple fronts in regions around the world and closer to the brink of nuclear war than we ever have been before. This is one of the main reasons why I’m committed to doing all that I can to send President Trump back to the White House, where he can once again serve us as our commander-in-chief. Because I am confident that his first task will be to do the work to walk us back from the brink of war."

Gabbard represented Hawaii in Congress and is a former vice-chair of the Democratic National Committee.

Democrats want to erase God from every facet of public life

Gabbard told the crowd that Democrats are trying to "erase God from every facet of our public life," and that Democrats are trying to force Americans to support of transgender people. "They tried to undermine our faith in a God so that we become a people more easily controlled," Gabbard said. "And there are so many too many examples of this society, but one that we're seeing play out as we speak is how, in carrying this out, they deny the existence of objective truth."

Voted "present" because of lack of bipartisan support

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard angered some of her fellow Democrats by voting "present" on both articles of impeachment against Trump, but she earned praise from the man who is the target of those charges. "I give her a lot of respect. Because she knew it was wrong. She took a pass," Trump said. Gabbard, however, did not say that she declined to vote one way or the other on the

Treat people with "Aloha spirit" of respect and justice

Every single person deserves to be treated with respect, regardless of race, religion, or gender, or politics. Inclusion, unity, respect, aloha, these will be the operating principles for my administration. Dr. Martin Luther King visited Hawaii in 1959, where he expressed his appreciation for what we call the aloha spirit. He said we look to you for inspiration for what you have succeeded in the areas of racial harmony and justice.

Hillary Clinton & military-industrial complex smearing me

Gabbard released a video blasting Hillary Clinton, claiming that Clinton and the "war machine" are trying to "destroy" and "discredit" her. Gabbard also told an NBC reporter the comments were part of a "smear campaign" "coming from people like Hillary Clinton and her proxies, the foreign policy establishment, the military-industrial complex, who obviously feel threatened by my message and by my campaign because they know that they can't control me."

Supports impeachment inquiry providing info to Americans

The serious issues that have been raised around this phone call that he had with the president of Ukraine and many other things that transpired around that are what caused me to support the inquiry in the House and I think that it should continue to play its course out together. All the information, provide that to the American people, recognizing that that is the only way forward.

Would be youngest president, but has experience

Q [to WARREN]: You would be the oldest president ever inaugurated on a first term. You'll be 71. 40% of Democratic primary voters say they think a candidate under the age of 70 is more likely to defeat President Trump. What do you say to them?

Sen. Elizabeth WARREN: I say I will out-work, out-organize and outlast anyone, and that includes Donald Trump, Mike Pence, or whoever the Republicans get stuck with.

Q: You're 38 years old and you would be the youngest president if elected. matter?

GABBARD: I am grateful to have been trained very well by the army and do my best to stay in shape, but the real question you should be asking is who is fit to serve as our commander-in-chief? Bringing the experience that I have both serving in Congress now for nearly seven years and serving for over 16 years in the Army National Guard, I understand the importance of our national security. I am prepared to do this job to fulfill this responsibility as commander-in-chief on day on

Treat people with respect, even when we disagree strongly

We must stand united as Americans remembering that we are all connected. This is the kind of leadership that I seek to bring as president. When I look out at our country, I don't see deplorables, I see fellow Americans. People who I treat with respect even when we disagree and when we disagree strongly. I will work to restore a White House that represents light and compassion and respect for every American regardless of race, religion, orientation, gender or political affiliation.

Bring spirit of patriotism to the White House

I know what patriotism is and I've known many great patriots throughout my life. And let me tell you this, Donald Trump is not behaving like a patriot. As president I will bring this spirit of real patriotism to the White House, serving the interest of all Americans, not just the rich and powerful. I'll bring this unifying spirit of love for country and the soldier's values of service above self to the White House, truly leading a government of by and for the people.

To understand socialism, look at Venezuela

Perhaps the most interesting moment in Rep. Tulsi Gabbard's town hall was when she was asked whether she is a capitalist. It's the kind of question every Democratic candidate has faced in the past few days, with varying degrees of success. "So many of these labels are misused, misunderstood to the point where people don't have any idea what they mean anymore," Ms Gabbard said.

The audience applauded. Perhaps they sympathised. Just a day earlier, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told a South by Southwest audience that capitalism was "irredeemable", while elsewhere possible independent candidate Howard Schultz praised capitalism and said to understand socialism you should "look at Venezuela".

When the terms of the debate can't even be agreed upon, what's the chance of a useful answer? Democrats might want to follow the Hawaiian's lead and avoid trying to answer.

Question Trump on Emoluments clause.

Gabbard signed questioning Trump on Emoluments clause

Excerpts from Letter from 17 Senators to Trump Organization: The Trump Organization`s continuing financial relationship with President Trump raises concerns about whether it is a pass-through for income that violates the Constitution`s two Emoluments Clauses: Article I, Section 9, Clause 8 on foreign Emoluments; and Article II, Clause 7 on domestic Emoluments. Please answer the following questions to help Congress understand:

Legal Analysis: (Cato Institute, `Emoluments Clause vs. Trump Empire,` 11/29/16): The wording of the Emoluments clause points one way to resolution: Congress can give consent, as it did in the early years of the Republic to presents received by Ben Franklin. It can decide what it is willing to live with in the way of Trump conflicts. If it misjudges public opinion, it will pay a political price at the next election.

FOIA argument: (ACLU Center for Democracy, `FOIA Request,` 1/19/17): We filed our first Freedom of Information Act request of the Trump Era, seeking documents relating President Trump`s conflicts of interest relating to his business connections. When Trump took the oath of office, he didn`t take the steps necessary to ensure that he and his family`s business interests comply with the Constitution. Some have even argued that upon taking the oath of office, the new president is already violating the Emoluments Clause.
