Rhode Island had 2nd best job growth under my watch
As governor, I came in at the depths of the recession and we turned my state around. Rhode Island had the biggest drop of the unemployment rate over my four budgets of all but one state. It happens to be Nevada, where we're having this debate.
As we look to the future, I want to address the income inequality, close the gap between the haves and the have-nots. I want to address climate change, a real threat to our planet. And I believe in prosperity through peace. I want to end these wars.

Minimum wage of $10.10/hr.; $15 would hurt small business
Chafee wants a $10.10 minimum wage. (The $15 favored by Martin O'Malley, Chafee explains, "could have a significant adverse effect on small businesses.") He also wants to spend more money on Head Start and Pell grants, to expand paid medical leave,
to fight gender-based wage discrimination with a Paycheck Fairness Act, and to "work for a fair tax structure that removes excessive loopholes and tax cuts for wealthy citizens and corporations."

Increase the minimum wage
Supports the following principles concerning labor:- Increase funding for national job-training programs that re-train displaced workers or teach skills needed in today’s job market.
- Increase the federal minimum wage.

Encourage employers to offer flex-time scheduling, comp-time, and unpaid leave for family emergencies.

Voted YES on raising the minimum wage to $7.25 rather than $6.25.
Vote to increase the minimum wage from $5.15 per hour to $7.25 per hour, over a two-year time period, in three incremental stages. Without the amendment, the minimum wage would increase to $6.25 per hour.

Voted YES on repealing Clinton's ergonomic rules on repetitive stress.
Vote to pass a resolution to give no enforcement authority to ergonomics rules submitted by the Labor Department during the Clinton Administration. These rules would force businesses to take steps to prevent work-related repetitive stress disorders
