Environmentalism is yet another new religion
Conservative scholar Robert Nisbet identified yet another new religion: "It is entirely possible that when the history of the 20th century is finally written, the single most important social movement of the period will be judged to be environmentalism.
Environmentalism is now well on its way to becoming the third great wave of redemptive struggle in Western history, the first being Christianity, the second modern socialism"By sacrificing to save our planet, Mother Earth, Gaia, millions believe, we
redeem ourselves and save our souls. This effort to recover a lost sense of the sacred is truly "religious emotion divorced from religious belief."
Other new faiths have lately appeared: New Age, Wicca, Santeria, Scientology. The occult is making a
comeback. Young people flock to books & films about ghosts, vampires, & creatures from other planets in a seemingly endless search for the transcendent. Others seek community and a cause to believe in by joining with those of the same sexual orientation.

Endangered Species Act hurts jobs to protect bugs & weeds
When Congress passed the Endangered Species Act in 1973, it sought to protect the bald eagle, timber wolf, and grizzly bear. It did not intend that all logging end in 7 million acres of forest in California and
Oregon and thousands of logging jobs be abolished so the habitat of the northern spotted owl might be undisturbed. Or that the Tellico Dam in Tennessee be held up for years lest the local snail darters be endangered.
Or that middle-class homes in Riverside not be built until accommodations could be found for Stephens kangaroo rats residing there. Threatened with prosecution if they cleared fire breaks for their homes, twenty-nine families lost homes, and the
k-rat habitat burned to the ground. While Congress sits idly by, bureaucrats and judges, in league with environmental extremists, imperil the livelihoods of workers, families, and towns to protect the vital interests of rats, bugs, and weeds.

Celebrating Earth Day is like worshiping dirt
Buchanan accused the Supreme Court of purging “God and the Ten Commandments and moral teachings out of the public schools of America.” With the court rulings, Buchanan said, “Easter has disappeared, and now we have Earth Day so we can all worship dirt.”

Compensate land owners for endangered species habitat
As President I will require Congress to vote on every endangered species and compensate property owners when their land is seized and converted into protected habitat. We want to see the bald eagle and grizzly bear survive, but unelected bureaucrats must
not be allowed to violate property rights in the process.

Abolish BLM and return land to states
As President I will abolish the Bureau of Land Management and give the 500 million acres of BLM lands back to the states-without conditions or mandates.

People conserve land, not federal or international agencies
We have a Biblically-based obligation to be good stewards of the land as “keepers of the commons.” However, the modern environmental movement has been co-opted by globalists who use international treaties to regulate our industries, and violate property
rights by converting private holdings into public “habitats”. No one is more qualified to conserve land than the people who live on it. The government should not trample states rights by turning local land into public property.
