Carl McCall on Government Reform

2002 Democratic Challenger NY Governor

Every citizen?s voice should be heard

Creating fair elections is about changing the fact that too many of our people don?t have a voice in the process. Changing the feeling that individual votes aren?t important ... that there isn?t a place for average citizens at the political table. This is what we are setting out to change."

Limit contributions and distribute public funds equally

Provide an equal amount of public funds to candidates who collect contributions of $100 or less and who agree to limit spending. Limit campaign contributions to $1,000. Close the soft-money loophole. Provide additional public funds to a candidate when faced with a wealthy, self-financed candidate. Require more frequent campaign finance reporting.
