Prohibit funding abortion as part of healthcare reform

Rep. Melancon voted YES on H Amdt 509 to HR 3962. The amendment prohibits federal funds for abortion services in the public option. It also prohibits individuals who receive affordability credits from purchasing a plan that provides elective abortions. However, it allows individuals to separately purchase with their own funds plans that cover elective abortions. It also clarifies that private plans may still offer elective abortions.

Opposes prohibiting human embryonic stem cell research.

Melancon opposes the CC survey question on banning stem-cell research

The Christian Coalition voter guide [is] one of the most powerful tools Christians have ever had to impact our society during elections. This simple tool has helped educate tens of millions of citizens across this nation as to where candidates for public office stand on key faith and family issues.

The CC survey summarizes candidate stances on the following topic: "Prohibiting human embryonic stem cell research". [Supporting this statement means the candidate would ban such research; opposing it means the candidate would allow such research].
